In Powiatowy Zespół Szkół in Błaszki, the Theater Club operates as part of extra-curricular activities. The introduction of these classes was dictated by the great interest of students and is a response to their requests and needs. During classes, students learn about the work of theater creators and the basics of theater theory and history. We try to arouse their interest in other fields of art, especially literature, dance and music, so that in the future they will be conscious recipients of art and participants of culture. Students deepen their knowledge of the specific work of theater creators – scriptwriter, director, actor, make-up artist and others.
The aim of the classes is also to develop students’ imagination and open them to the world. By taking on a role and observing the world and other people, they break down their barriers. Participating in classes helps students cope with stage fright and stress and develops their imagination and creativity Students deepen their sensitivity, adopt appropriate attitudes in various problem situations, cope with emotions, are able to express them and control them. Theater classes are designed to help you find your way in the world, teach through play, and are a good way to integrate the group. Students from the Theater Club at our school are responsible for the artistic setting of school and community celebrations. During classes, they prepare performances, appeals, and take part in many local events.
The National Reading Festival has been taking place in the fall for several years now. This is an event under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, during which outstanding works of Polish literature are read. Our students prepare theater performances adapted from them. They prepare not only the interpretation of the text, but also scenography, make-up and music.
Young people from the Theater Club often take part in extracurricular events. Every year in November, on the anniversary of Poland regaining independence, it prepares a patriotic community celebration for the residents of our town. Poetry recitation, patriotic songs, and historical scenes are very popular among the public. Before Christmas, students play the role of Santa Claus and visit a local kindergarten with gifts. Valentine’s Day is an annual opportunity to meet in the school hall and recite romantic poetry. During the last meeting in February 2023, the Theater Club hosted a local poet, Mrs. Malinowska. The youth also prepared a recitation of her poems. All these activities are not only a good way to spend time, but they are also an excellent promotion of our school.
The last two years, from December 2021, the activities of the Theater Club focused on tasks related to the implementation of the Erasmus + project “Playing with the Play”. The students met many times to prepare their roles. They performed the ballad ”Lilies” by Adam Mickiewicz for all guests. Before they started working on the text, they recalled the circumstances of the ballad’s creation, the author, and the historical context. During the Erasmus participants’ visit to Poland, they all took part in workshops conducted by experts associated with the theater. Under the supervision of specialists, they worked on voice emission and stage movement. They could also talk to the theater director and look behind the scenes.

All activities undertaken by our students are not only a good way to spend time and show the effects of their work, but also constitute an excellent promotion of our school in the community.
