Common play – We dream the same Europe
The process of writing the plays started at the meeting in Poland. Before that, the teachers had an online meeting where the main subject was decided. At first it was ”We dream the same Europe” but we narrowed it to be ” Dreams of young people”. We decided to make four different plays. Like that the students could work in smaller groups. The plays were dived in four parts and the work was done in the LTT:s. The students had about four hours to write the scenes. They were rehearsed and filmed after that. The parts of the play were written in three parts: Introduction (in Poland), Rising action (in Portugal), Climax of the dramatic event (in Finland) and Resolution (in Finland). The finished plays were rehearsed and performed in LTT of Greece.
Here are teacher’s instructions for every meeting:
How to create the act 1 (introduction):
Give every student paper (A3), pen and a post it –sticker.
Instructions:
CHOOSING THE DREAM
-Have a nice and comfortable position. Close your eyes. Think about yourself in future, when everything has gone perfectly. You live perfect life in a perfect world. What do you see? Where are you?
– open your eyes and write down some sentences about the previous dreaming. You don’t have to show them to anyone, so be as subjective and honest as you want. You can use your mother language.
– Next write lists or stream of consciousness. Continue these sentences:
I deram about…(write 5 minutes)
If I had the power, the world would be like that: (write 5 min.)
Look at your notes. Choose one dream that you can present to other people. Write it to the post it sticker (in English).
Make groups of 9 students (in each different nationalities)
Show your dream to your group. Choose together one dream that you all are interested in.
WRITING CHARACTERS
Create a character / person. Give them a name, age, background etc. This main character is dreaming about the dream you have chosen.
Create some supporting characters. There could be a friend, family members, an antagonist, someone, who helps them, etc. Describe them too.
Create an act (duration 5 minutes), where the main character is living the ordinary life. Show BY ACTION, NOT BY NARRATION, how they are like, how they live etc. Show also what is their dream. Don’t put any harm to their way at first.
Then continue the act by showing HOW they are aiming the dream.
In the end of the act show the obstacle! Something or somebody that prevents the character from fulfilling the dream.
PLAYING THE ACT
Reheasal and play a FIVE MINUTES act to the others.

How to create the act two (Rising action )
Make four groups of 9 students (in each different nationalities)
Read the Act one of your group: What is the dream of the main character? What obstacle do they face?

Then create together a five minutes act, where the main character solves or tries to solve that problem. If the problem is solved, is there another that comes?
Follow the same technique as before: name and line

How to create act three (Climax and resolution)
Make four groups
Read your acts one and two. (They have been written in Poland and Portugal)
- Answer together following questions:
Who is the main character?
What is their dream?
How are they trying to achieve the dream?
Are there any obstacles in the way?
- Invent one or two ideas each for
– how the story could continue?
– how it could end?
Tell your ideas in the group. Choose the way you will continue the story.
- Write the THIRD ACT.
Follow the same technique as before: name and line

Romeo: But your family hates me.
Write an act that lasts about five minutes.

The director decides how the actors move, feel and are in contact with each other

FINAL PERFORMANCE
The four plays were rehearsed and performed in Greece, the cradle of theater. They were directed by two theater professionals and the performances were in a real theater.

Isabela is doing the clients makeup in her small studio in Barcelona
C: So, how are you?
I: I’m fine, thanks. How about you?
C: It was great thanks for asking. I’m getting my makeup done for my mom’s second wedding. How is your family doing?
I: They’re fine. I just haven’t talked to them for a while.
(Isabella gets more uncomfortable and there is an awkward silence)
I: Your makeup is done now.
C:Oh, thank you! You’re very talented. You should definitely expand your services outside of Barcelona.
I: Thank you so much! It has always been my dream. To travel around the world.
C: Hope you make your dreams come true one day.
I: I hope so
Her best friend Joshua gets in the studio
J: Good morning everyone!
C, I: Good morning
J: Are you done with the makeup or I’ll have to wait?
I: Almost done. I just have to clean up and we can go.
(The client steps out the studio)
J: Have you seen who liked your last Instagram post?
I: Who did?
J: Harry Styles did!!!
I: No way! It must be a mistake
J: You can see for yourself
Joshua shows his phone
I: OMG that’s unbelievable!
J: It keeps getting more and more likes! This could be your chance to become famous!
I: Shut up! You’re talking nonsense.
Her phone rings, a message comes up
Joshua picks up her phone and looks shocked.
J: NO WAY! LOOK!
Isabella grabs the phone and looks shocked
I: Oh a so she wants ME to go to Italy to do her makeup for a fashion show?
J: You definitely have to go! You can’t miss an opportunity like that.
I: Oh I have to book a fight as soon as possible.
(They leave the studio in a hurry)
Act 2
J: I can’t believe you’re going to Italy – and MEETING GIGI HADID!
I: Me neither, I can’t believe my biggest dream came true! I’m going to buy a ticket right now.
J: The fashion show is tomorrow. If you’re lucky, you will arrive in Italy tonight.
(Isabela goes to take a computer to buy a ticket)
I: This is amazing, there’s a plane leaving in 3 hours… but look at the prices!
J: You don’t have enough money for the tickets, do you?
I: No I don’t…
J: Could your mother help you?
I: I’m not sure, you know I haven’t talked to her for a month…
J: I’m sure she will lend you some money, this is an amazing opportunity after all.
I: Okay, I believe you. (Goes on phone and calls her mother)
I: Hi mom, I’m sorry for not contacting you for a while, but I need your help.
MOM: Darling, you call me only when you need something.
I: I know mom, I’m sorry. But I really need to go to Italy tonight. I’m going there to do Gigi Hadid’s makeup for her fashion show!
MOM: Oh wow, you should’ve told that earlier. Of course I’ll lend you money….if you get Gigi’s autograph for me!
I: I wouldn’t do otherwise! Thank you mom. (Gets off phone)
I: Phew, that was easy.
J: You should hurry now and get ready for the flight!
I: Oh right, I’m going to pack my suitcase right away.
J: Have a nice trip Isabela, call me when you arrive there!
I: I will! See you Joshua.
Act 3
Isabela arrives at the airport and goes to check in.
ISABELA: Hi! I am checking in for a flight to Italy.
OFFICER: Hello! (Tapping the computer) Sorry. Your passport is expired. I can not let you in.
ISABELA: Oh no! This can’t be happening to me! This is like a nightmare!
OFFICER: I am sorry. You have to leave. Have a nice day.
ISABELA: Alright then…
Sad Isabela leaves, and doesn’t look where she’s walking. She bumps into Gigi Hadid.
SECURITY GUARD 1: Watch out where you are going.
SECURITY GUARD 2: And never bump into her again.
GIGI: Hey, I know you! You are Isabela! But.. why are you still in Barcelona? We should be in Italy tonight.
ISABELA: Omg Gigi Hadid! This is embarrassing… I just found out that my passport is expired. I can not make it to Italy today, or tomorrow, or anytime soon. I’m sorry.
GIGI: No problem at all. You can come with me. We will hop into my private jet. There no one is asking for your passport.
ISABELA: Omg, thank you so much!!! I could not be any luckier. This has to be a miracle.
GIGI: Let’s go!
They all get to the plane
ISABELA: I have never seen a plane so beautiful!
GIGI: Well I have never seen someone do makeup as good as you. You are like a professional!
ISABELA: Aww, thank you. (Yawns) I am tired, I think I’ll go to sleep. Wake me up when we arrive.
Isabela goes to sleep
The plane arrives to Italy
GIGI: And we are here!
ISABELA: Wow, did I sleep the whole flight?
GIGI: Yes you did. The fashion show venue is very close. Let’s go there right away so we can start!
They walk a circle and sit to do Gigi’s makeup, and do it non-verbally
ISABELA: Okay, you are ready. Do you like it?
GIGI: I’m going to slay in the show!
ISABELA: Now go there! You should not make the audience wait.
Gigi goes on stage and does the slay model walk
CROWD 1: She’s so beautiful
CROWD 2: Look at her makeup, it’s amazing!
CROWD 3: Who did your makeup?
GIGI: Do you want to see the person who did my makeup?
CROWD: YES!!!!

ACT 1
It’s the year 4942, humans and aliens live together on Earth, but their relationship isn’t the most peaceful. We find ourselves in a cafe, where an alien sits alone on a table waiting for someone. Another alien walks in running.
Kathryn: Kacey, I am sorry I’m late
Kacey: It’s okay, don’t worry girl. Where were you?
Kathryn: I was at work and I just didn’t notice the time, because I was trying to finish writing this news, which you won’t believe, but if it goes well, I may finally be promoted!
Kacey: Congrats! Finally I can’t believe it! And your siblings?Is Robert doing well at the university, he moved there yesterday right?
Kathryn: He’s doing okay, and yeah, I had to drive him there, my parents still are mad because he didn’t go to an all aliens university. But on better news, there’s been this rumor between my co-workers that in an interview someone did with the mayor, he said that we have been working for something to reduce the discrimination that aliens face, can you believe it!
Kacey: That seems amazing, I would not get my hope up tho, remember it is just a rummer.
As she says that, she notices someone sitting in there, next to the entrance.
Kacey: Kathryn, maybe we should get some drinks and take a walk outside instead?
Kathryn: What, why?
Kacey: Well, there’s a chance that Isabella is here, and sitting next to the entrance.
Kathryn: Isn’t that the girl that used to bully me because I was an alien, she was so childish. I thought her family had moved out.
Kacey: She is here now, so we should go.
The two girls go to the counter and get two drinks to go. As they turn they see someone walking into the café.
Kathryn: Kacey, Kacey, Kacey
As Kathryn looks at Petter, he starts moving in slow motion while pink lightning fills the café
Kathryn (whispering): It’s Petter! We’re leaving now and we’re gonna pass by him! Okay stay calm.
Kacey: I don’t think I’m the one that needs to stay calm.
The friend walk to the exit as Petter talks with some guy that’s sitting down, but as Kathryn is passing by her old bully, isabella puts her leg in front of Kathryn making the alien fall.As she tries to get up Petter rushes in to help
Petter: Are you ok?
Kathryn (nervous but happy): Yeah, definitely okay, I am amazing actually!
Petter: Well. Be careful.
P walks away, Kacey goes to Kathryn who is visibly happy
Kathryn: You saw that? He helped me, best day ever!
Kacey (laughing): I imagine. Let’s get going?
They walk outside of the cafe
ACT 2
In her parents house, Katheryn is talking on the phone with Kacey, and a family dinner is about to start.
Katheryn (on the phone): Oh my god!! I still can’t believe that happened!
Kacey (tired, also on the phone): Yes. I know. You have been talking about this all week, calm down girl! The human boy helped you a week ago and you haven’t shut up about it yet
Kathryn’s brother walks up to Katheryn to tell her that dinner is ready
Kathryn (on the phone): Excuse me, “the human boy”??? He has a name!
Her brother overhears and looks surprised
Brother: Dinner is ready!
Kathryn and Kacey mimic their goodbyes, as the brother whispers on his parents ears about what he just heard, his parents look shocked upon hearing it. Everyone from the family goes to the table and starts eating, but the atmosphere is very tense.
Brother: So you were talking with your friend?
Kathryn (shocked and nervous): Oh,yeah, why you asking?
Mother: No reason, how´s Kacey doing?
Kathryn (suspiciously): She´s fine.
Mother: That´s great.
Father: Did you talk about anything interesting?
Kathryn: Why are you asking? You never do…
Brother: Don´t say that-
Father: The human. How long has that been going on?
Sister 1 (mocking): You haven´t told us
Sister 2: Just let her be!
Father (angry): No daughter of mine is going to date a human !
Kathryn leaves the table, probably holding in tears
ACT 3
She goes to her room crying and thinking about calling the boy,
Kathryn: Hi!
Peter; Hey, why are you crying?
Kathyrn; I had an argument with my parents because they don’t want us to be together.
Peter; You can live with us if you don’t want to be at home, we can be together all the time and we don’t have to hide.
Kathryn: Alright, but where should we meet? Because my parents shouldn’t see me leave. My parents are going to the supermarket in an hour so I can leave then.
Peter: Alright, when they leave my parents can come and get you.
Kathryn: Okay, I love you, bye.
Peter: I love you more! Bye.
After the parents have left, Kathyrin starts to pack her bag. When she is done, she calls Peter.
Kathryn: Hey, my parents just left, and I have packed my bags. Are your parents coming to get me or do we meet in the middle?
Peter: My parents can come to your house, I can’t come, because I have some things to do.
Kathryn: Okay, I’ll wait for your parents. Love you.
Peter: Love you too!
The human’s parents arrive at the house while the aliens’ parents are in the supermarket on the other side of the road.
Kathyrin sees her parents in the parking lot of the supermarket.
Suddenly she sees an explosion and she and the boys’ parents go and see if her parents are okay.
Kathyrin runs to her parents and starts to cry when she sees that her parents are injured.
Kathryn (screaming): MOM, DAD ARE YOU ALRIGHT?
The parents have lost consciousness and they aren’t answering.
Peters’ mom (Anna): Don’t worry I’m a doctor I can help them.
Peters’ dad (Anthony): I’ll call an ambulance, Anna can you start treating their wounds?
Anna: Yes.
Kathryn: Thank you so much for taking care of them.
The ambulance arrives and takes the parents to a hospital.
Two days later:
Anna (to the alien parents): You were injured very seriously. You should be happy to be alive.
Alien parents: ouch, it hurts so much. What happened?
Anna: You were in an explosion and you both broke your ribs, and you have lots of wounds and you have gotten severe burns all over your body.
Alien parents: Do you happen to know who saved us?
As the parents ask the question Kathyrin walks in the room and hears the question.
Kathryn: Actually, Anna and Anthony were the ones that saved you.
Alien parents: What? Humans were the ones who saved us?
Kathryn: Fun fact, they are also my boyfriend’s parents.
Alien parents: Oh, we are really sorry that we were so rude to you humans. You guys can be together, and we will support you. We are thankful for saving our lives.
Peters’ dad was actually the mayor and by showing this kindness by the aliens to everyone, the discrimination between the aliens and the humans disappeared.

Elliot rolls his eyes
E: So, are you going to the concert tonight?
A: Not sure. Are you?
E: Of course, it’s my favorite band.
A and E are walking down the hallway to their next class but they hear people talking.
N: Do you want to go out tomorrow night?
K: Sorry, I can’t. I have dinner with my family and everyone is going to be there.
N: Elliot too?
K : Yeah, he’s my brother!
N: Oh, okay
K: Do you want to come? Elliot has invited Ander too, so it would be okay.
N: I don’t really want to be around those kinds of people.
K; What do you mean by ”those kinds of people”?
N: well, you know, gay people.
Ander and Elliot look at each other confused.
E: What the hell?
A: I told you to stop liking him so many times. He is not good for you.
E is about to cry and A is trying to comfort him. They decide to leave school and go to A’s home.
A’s room:
E: I really had no idea he was like that.
A taps E:s shoulder
A: You will find someone better. I am sure about that.
E: Like who? Everyone is like Noah.
A: Not me, though.
Act 2
They are still in Ander´s room
E: But youre are my best friend of course you are supportive
Ander looks kind of disappointed.
A: Yeah… of course
A: We have to go to your house now that dinner is starting.
At Elliot´s house
A: Don’t worry about Noah as we heard he is not coming
E: I´m trying my best not to
The doorbell rings.
K: Elliot can you get the door?
Elliot goes to open the door. Its Noah.
There is an awkward silence as they both stand there in shock
E: Oh, it’s you
Noah rolls his eyes
N: Its not like I wanted to come here, believe me
Noah walks past Elliot, kind of pushing him while doing so.
Elliot grabs Ander and drags him to his room
At Elliot´s room
E: What is going on, why the heck is Noah here?
A: I don’t know maybe your sister talked him into coming
E: I am totally freaking out I can’t be in the same room with him
A: You´re better than him and you don’t have to worry about anything when i´m here with you
There is a small moment of silence
Elliot hugs Ander and mumbles:
E: Thank you.
A: We have to go now
E: This dinner is gonna be so bad.
Act 3:
At the dinner, everyone sits quietly.
K: Can we have your attention please?
Mom: What is it dear?
K:Noah and i have something really important to say.
Dad: What is it? Are you pregnant?!
K: Oh my god no!
N: Not yet, i hope not
Mom: excuse me what
K: Me and Noah are dating
Elliot is obviously really shocked
E: What? Since when?
Mom: Congratulations!
Elliot: Excuse me please!
Elliot leaves to his room
A( Shouts angrily at kate) Kate, how can you be so selfish? you know your borther likes noah!
N: What?! Noah has feelings for me?
K: Im doing what i want to, its not his business
N: He likes me; thats so disgusting
Dad: What did you say? Dont say that kind of things ever again!
Ander follows Elliot to his room
Summary: Andre and Elliot fight in Elliot’s room. Ander tells about his feelings to elliot accidentally.
Ander Elliot’s room: Elliot is on his bed, clearly upset and crying.
- Hey Elliot, I know it may be a stupid question, but how are you? Just for you to know im here for you, if you need anything
E: *screaming* how do you think i feel, my world feels like it’s falling apart.
A: *feels upset* Calm down
E: What do you even know about love? You don’t have anyone like that.
A: That doesn’t matter! You should really see who cares about you and who doesn’t
E: *screams* Nobody cares about me
A: I do, maybe you should notice everything I’ve done for you, I was always there. I care about you because I love you!
Elliot is shocked and Ander leaves
THE NEXT DAY
At Elliots room; KAte knocks on the door
K: I need to talk to you
E: I don’t want to
K: It’s important *kate opens the door*
E: I said i did not want to talk to you!
K: I’m sorry I was too selfish. I’ve realized how bad of a sister I am and how hateful Noah was. So I broke up with him.
E: Do you think it solves anything?
K: I Know it doesn’t but I still wanted to say that. But if it helps you in any way, I think he wouldn’t be a good boyfriend for you.
E: I still loved him
K: Did you? What did you and Ander talk about yesterday? You were screaming.
E: oh and there is that too… We had a really bad argument… and he confessed
K: confessed what?
- *is a little silent at first* he loves me… Not as a friend…
K: Did you just figure that out? I thought you were pretending that you didn’t know. It was too obvious.
E: What do you mean?
K: the way he looked at you, everything he did for you, thats not something that someone who was just a friend would do.
E: *whispers* so he really loves me… *out loud* I should apologize.
Anders house
Elliot knocks
A: What are you doing here?
E:I did not know that you felt that way for such a long time, can I come in?
Ander points out that he can go in. Elliot enters the house
E: yesterday i said some things that i shouldn’t say, and didn’t think before saying them, and i’m sorry.
A: I’m used to you being that way, so don’t worry about it.
E: No, yesterday I really crossed the line, and said things that no one should say and that was horrible of me.
A: I also said things without thinking about what I said, and I already knew that you didn’t feel the same way I did. So let’s just pretend as if nothing ever happened and be friends like before.
E: I can’t just pretend that it didn’t happen and I can’t just be your friend because now I’m not sure how I feel about you…
A: Then what do you think about us starting something but slowly… I can’t promise you that it will work but we should still try.
E: Are you sure about that? I still haven’t gotten over my feelings for Noah.
A: Yes I’m sure.

ACT 2
In the newspaper company, the next day:
Kathryn arrives the bosses office
Kathryn: “Good morning “
Boss: “Good morning Kathryn! I have some good news for you! “
Kathryn: “Really? May you tell me what the good news are? “
Boss: “I´m going to give you a promotion. You´re going to start at your new task tomorrow. “
Kathryn: “Sounds great, I´m very thankful. Can you please give me more information? “
Boss: “Yes of course! You´re going to do a partner work with a colleague and I´m going to give you more responsibility. I´m very proud of your previous work and I believe in you. You´re going to get more payment but your job is going to be a little harder but don´t worry. I´m sure that you´re able to make it. “
Kathryn: “Thank you. I´m going to do my best. What time do I start? “
Boss smiles
Boss: “You´re going to start at 9 am and you will meet your new partner tomorrow. Don´t be late because your new task is very important. Thank you, you can go now. “
Kathryn: “Yes I understand, good bye see you tomorrow! “
Kathryn leaves the office. Kathryn is little bit scared but still confident about her work.
ACT 3
The clock rang at 8. 30, Kathryn is late
Kathryn: ” Oh my god, OH MY GOD! I’m late on the most important day of my life”
She panickly puts clothes on and hurries out of the door (clothes are messy) (grabs a coffee on the way )
At 9.10 she arrives to the office.
Boss: ”Oh finally, Your new partner is already waiting at the other room”
Kathryn: ”Sorry I’m late, the traffic was enormous, I almost got hit by a car”
She goes to the room, and she sees Petter.
Kathryn: ”Oh, you’re the last person I thought that I would see here. ”
Petter: ”Me too, What do you think, maybe we should grab a coffee?”
Kathryn: ”yeah, sure”
But little did they know, that in the cafe, there would also be isabella waiting
They walk to the cafe and sit down.
They don’t notice isabella, who is sitting with her friends.
Isabella: ”Oh my god, what is that freak doing here? What does Petter see in her?!”
She starts planning an revenge
After a few days
Isabella has dissapeared it was very sudden
Petter is walking to the office and Isabella comes out of hiding and stops Petter.
Isabella: ”Petter, wait! You need to listen to me. Kathryn is dangerous! Look at my hands! She did these! You need to stop talking to her! That’s why I have dissapeared for a while”
Peter: ”Wait, who are you?
Isabella: ”That’s not important, the point is that I’m trying to save you from that crazy Bitch”
Petter is confused, and doesn’t know who to trust
Peter: ”Wait I need time to think about it”
Petter arrives to the office, and Kathryn is already there.
Something is wrong in the way Petter acts, and Kathryn notices it. (He stands far away and doesn’t talk a lot) So she invites him to have coffee with her to talk about him.
Kathryn: ”hey do you wanna grab a coffee?”
Petter: ”Yeah sure!”
They arrive to the cafe
Kathryn: ” So, How are you? Did you sleep well?”
Petter: ”I’m good”
Kathryn: ”Are you sure, you’re acting a bit weird, you have started to act differently, What’s really going on?
Petter: ”What, No, I’m totally fine!”
Kathryn: ”We are partners, we have to trust eachother, I’m always sincere, so you can tell me what’s troubling you, because you have always been something more than friend for me”
Petter: ”I don’t even know who to trust right now. Well one day I was stopped by this one Alien, I believe her name was Isa I think, and she said some nasty things about you”
Kathryn is shocked
Kathryn: ”Are you sure it’s Isa, not Isabella”
Petter: ”Yes”
Isabella walks into the cafe
Petter: ”Oh that’s her!” (points at her)
Kathryn is very surprised
Isabella sees Kathryn and Isabella pretends to be scared.
Kathryn approaches Isabella
Kathryn: ” tell me everything you told him”
Isabella is silent
Kathryn starts yelling and blaming of bullying.
Kathryn: ”Since I can remember, you’ve bullied me for nothing! I have suffered from trauma because of you!”
Isabella: ”How can you lie so easily? You’re a horrible alien. Sooner or later Petter will know the truth about you”
Kathryn: ” Do you have anyone that can prove that I have done it”
Isabella: ”Do you?”
Kathryn: ”actually yes I do, my best friend Kacey”
Kathryn calls Kacey
When Kathryn is calling, Kacey is on her way to the work (She works there) and she comes there to testify
Kathryn:” Hey! Where are you?”
Kacey: ”I’m on my way to work”
Kacey arrives
Kacey: ”What’s going on in here?”
Isabella and Kathryn are fighting, and Petter pushes them away from each other.
Petter: ”Stop all this madness. Kacey, can you tell me who is Isabella?”
Kacey doesn’t get the chance to talk, because Isabella starts crying.
Kacey: ”Why are you pretending to be the victim.”
Isabella:”You have to understand me, I’ve been bullied for years and I needed someone to give me a shoulder to cry on. I have been so jealous of you, Kathryn, since elementary school, because you’re frankly perfect, everyone is nice to you, you have a lot of friends, who are not using you, you have to know what’s it like to be hated, like me in my childhood. I want you to understand how it feels to be bullied and unloved.”
Kathryn: ”But do you think that bullying was the best thing you could’ve done. You could have reached out and gotten help. You can’t help yourself, by hurting others.”
Isabella: ”I know, I’m sorry. My jealousy got the worst of me. ”
Petter: ”So now that you know the truth, why don’t you shake on it and become friends?”
They shake on it, and Kacey hugs Isabella and Kathryn, Petter joins in.
